The Great Pause

Written by Cassia Sherrill

It was in the great pause where we found it.

We found fellowship again.

We found nature again.

We found beauty again.

We found connection again.

We found creativity again.

We found curiosity again.

We found simplicity again.

We found life again.

Days prior were filled with noise.

It was easy to avoid a neighbor.

It was normal to avoid going out into nature.

It was natural to ignore the smallest pieces of beauty around us.

It was exciting to watch people’s lives from a distance.

It was trendy to view others’ creativity while you create nothing of your own.

It was offensive to be curious.

It was lazy to slow down.

It was wishing for weekends to go slow and weekdays to go fast.

It took a great pause to remember our priorities.

The great pause, while negative in nature, brought about a multitude of beauty.

It put emphasis on the right things and showed how void the wrong things would soon become.

It was a shifting.

A shifting of perspective that none asked for but all needed.

The great pause was a form of escapism,

To view the areas that needed adjusting from a different mindset.

It was an unexpected turn of events that left the world at a halt,

But gave the world the shift it needed for the better.
